Red Magic 7 is now official in the Chinese market, and along with this phone, the company also launched the 7 Pro. Now, that phone has some significant upgrades over the vanilla version, so we will talk about it in a separate article. The vanilla model brings the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, a 165Hz display, and an upgraded cooling system. As the name suggests, this is an upgrade over the Red Magic 6 and Red Magic 6S of last year.

Red Magic 7

Design-wise, Red Magic 7 comes in some interesting color shades, such as the ‘Cyber Neon’ that the above image shows. Apart from the color and the pattern on the back, the overall design is not different from last year. There is a similar triple camera array and a triangular LED flash module. The cooling system gets some significant upgrades this time. Apart from the left and right vents, there is also a vent on the back. This one is for air intake, just as the left side vent. This additional rear vent, along with the other two vents, offers a maximum temperature drop of 2.4°C and an average temperature drop of 1.9°C.

The Red Magic 6 had a cooling fan that could spin at a rate of 18,000rpm, but this time, the spinning rate is increased to 20000rpm, similar to the Pro version of last year. There is a 30% increase in airflow and a 40% drop in noise. This reduction in noise is due to the metal top cover.

The ICE 8.0 cooling system consists of a nine-layer heat dissipation technology that starts from the cooling fan and includes materials such as Aerospace grade phase change heat dissipation material, copper foil, high thermal conductivity gel, graphene, Aerothermodynamic aviation aluminum middle frame, etc.

Well, all these details are just the tip of the iceberg as there is a lot of talk about regarding cooling in this phone. Anyways, speaking of other things, Red Magic 7 has a 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED with a 165Hz refresh rate and up to 720Hz multi-finger touch sampling rate. This panel offers a peak brightness of 700 nits. Under the hood, there is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC with 8GB/12GB/16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The rear camera setup includes a primary 64MP sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro. There is an 8MP camera for selfies.

Out of the box, the phone runs on Android 12-based RedMagic OS 5.0. There is a 4,500mAh battery inside, and the phone also supports 120W fast charging. The company claims that this charging technology can charge the 4,500mAh fully in just 17 minutes. Interestingly, the phone comes with a 165W Gallium Nitride Charger in the box. There are stereo speakers, and the phone does not miss out on a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In China, Red Magic 7 comes in three color options where one being a transparent version. Here is the pricing –

  • 8GB + 128GB – ¥3899 (~$615)
