Remember the Red Magic 6 Pro that launched in March this year? Well, Nubia has now launched an upgraded version of that phone in China named the Red Magic 6S Pro. The main highlights of this newer model include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chip (versus 888), ICE 7.0 cooling system (versus 6.0), and a 720Hz multi-finger touch-sampling rate (versus 360Hz). Apart from these major changes, there isn’t any big difference between the two phones.
In terms of the design as well, you won’t find any huge difference. Just as in the case of the 6 Pro, the 6S Pro also has a Transparent edition, and the cooling fan has RGB as well. We can see that underneath the transparent back panel, the major specifications of the phone are also mentioned. So in case you forget what specs there are, you can always flip your phone and read them out, hah! In China, the phone comes with “Tencent Games” branding as well.
There is a triple camera setup on the back, and on the front, you get the same design. There are two vents, one on the right side & the other on the left. Among these two, one is used for intake and the other to throw out the hot air from the cooling fan. The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack but that is not a big surprise since it is a gaming phone, so we expect to see a headphone jack.
One of the biggest upgrades comes in the form of the Snapdragon 888 Plus SOC. As we know, the Snapdragon 888 Plus has a CPU with a higher clock speed than the Snapdragon 888 (2.995GHz vs. 2.84GHz). So, that should result in slightly better performance as well. Another upgrade comes in the cooling system. The Red Magic 6 Pro had the ICE 6.0 cooling system by Red Magic, but the Red Magic 6S Pro gets the ICE 7.0 cooling system. What’s new? Well, Red Magic has used Phase Change Materials this time for better temperature control.
The display on the front is a 6.8-inch AMOLED with a Full-HD+ resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, and an impressive 720Hz touch-sampling rate for multiple fingers. For comparison, Red Magic 6 Pro has a 360Hz multi-finger touch-sampling rate. So, the newer model has double the touch-sampling rate than the previous one. The shoulder buttons are still here, and this time, the touch-response rate is bumped up to 450Hz from 400Hz. There is also a third trigger on the rear.
There are three cameras on the back where the primary camera has a 64MP sensor, the secondary camera is an 8MP ultrawide, and the third camera is a 2MP macro shooter. There is an 8 Megapixel camera for selfies on the front. The battery size is 4,500mAh, which seems pretty small when you consider the fact that there is Snapdragon 888 Plus, a display with 165Hz refresh rate + 720Hz touch-response rate, a physical cooling fan, and other power-hungry components. Still, you can top up the battery quickly, thanks to 120W fast charging support.
Now, for the global version, the phone has a bigger 5,050mAh cell but the maximum charging speed supported is 66W.
Finally, coming to the pricing for China, the phone comes in three colors where only one is a transparent edition. Here is the pricing –
- 8GB + 128GB – ¥3999 ($620)
- 12GB + 128GB – ¥4399 ($681)
- 12GB + 128GB (Transparent Edition) – ¥4499 ($696)
- 12GB + 256GB – ¥4799 ($743)
- 12GB + 256GB (Transprent Edition) – ¥4899 ($759)
- 16GB + 256GB (Transparent Edition) -¥5399 ($836)
Red Magic 6S Pro is coming to the global market soon in two storage options – 12GB + 128GB and 16GB + 256GB.
