In June this year, Red Magic 3 launched in India at a starting price of Rs 35,999 & at that price, the phone offered specs like Snapdragon 855 SOC, a 90Hz display & a massive 5,000mAh battery. Today, the Red Magic 3S launched in India with the upgraded Snapdragon 855+ SOC & UFS 3.0 storage. Interestingly, the starting price remains the same as the Red Magic 3, i.e., Rs 35,999.
When it comes to the design, there is almost no change at all if you compare the design to that of Red Magic 3. There is now the “Red Magic 3S” branding on the rear, but apart from that, the phone looks the same overall. So, it is only the internals that is different rather than the design.
On the front, there is a 6.65-inch Full-HD+ (2340 x 1080) AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, DC Dimming & 430 nit brightness. The touch response rate is 240Hz & the screen also supports HDR. Under the hood, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SOC & yes, this is the same chip that powers the recently launched Asus ROG Phone 2. There is 8/12GB RAM & 128/256GB internal storage.
It is worth mentioning that the storage is UFS 3.0 so it’s much faster than the Red Magic 3’s UFS 2.1 storage.
While cameras are never the USP of any gaming phone, the Red Magic 3S has a single 48 Megapixel camera on the back with f/1.79 aperture & it can shoot up to 8K 30fps videos, so that’s impressive. On the front, there is a 16 Megapixel camera for selfies. There is also Super Night Scene mode to take great images in low light.
The battery size remains the same as Red Magic 3, i.e., a 5,000mAh unit with 27W Fast charging support via the Type-C port. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Just like the ROG Phone 2, there are trigger buttons that you can map to any control in the game as per your liking. Other gaming features include 4D Vibration, Stereo Front-firing speakers, Dual Cooling system, Internal Cooling fan etc.
