After the launch of the Redmi K70 Pro, iQOO 12, Meizu 21, & the OnePlus 12, we now have a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phone in China, the Realme GT 5 Pro. This is a very aggressively priced smartphone, with an impressive spec sheet.
The Redmi K70 Pro starts at ¥3299, the iQOO 12 at ¥3999, the Meizu 21 at ¥3399, and the OnePlus 12 at ¥4299. The GT 5 Pro starts at ¥3399, so while it is not the most affordable phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the specifications that it brings at this price make it a better value for money than the competition.
The design of the phone looks premium, no doubt. It has a large circular camera module on the rear, a triple camera setup, and an LED flash module. The camera module uses glass and stainless steel materials. The frame of the phone is made of duralumin, which the company claims is 40% stronger than the regular aluminum frame. Apart from the black color, the other two options have a leather finish on the back.
The phone has an under-display fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, an X-axis linear motor, and IP64 certification.
On the front, the Realme GT 5 Pro has a curved display with a hole punch cutout in the center. The side bezels are 1.36mm, and the bottom bezel is 1.94mm. It is not the slimmest bottom chin on a smartphone, but still, the bezels are pretty slim on this phone.
This is a 6.78-inch BOE X1 OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution (2780 x 1264 pixels), up to 144Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colors, and a local peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The global peak brightness is 1600 nits, and the manual peak brightness is 1000 nits. This is an 8T LTPO panel, so the refresh rate can go as low as 0.5Hz when required.
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powers this device, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The phone has a “3VC” cooling system that has a three-layer vapor chamber, offering a heat-dissipation area of 12000mm². The total heat dissipation area of this cooling system is 36,132mm².
The camera setup on this phone is interesting. First, all cameras have Sony sensors. The primary camera has a 50MP 1/1.4″ Sony LYT-808 sensor with an f/1.69 lens and OIS. The secondary camera has an 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor and an ultrawide lens. The third camera has a 50MP 1/1.56″ Sony IMX890 sensor and an f/2.6 periscope telephoto lens with OIS. The selfie camera has a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor.
The battery is 5,400mAh, there is 100W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. The phone has a USB 3.2 port, offering a 10 times bandwidth improvement over USB 2.0.
Realme GT 5 Pro runs on Realme UI 5.0, based on Android 14.
