Realme 5 series launched in India today & there are two new phones, the 5 and 5 Pro. Realme 5 is the cheaper of the two & also the most affordable phone in India that features Quad Cameras. Moreover, it is the first smartphone that launched in India with Snapdragon 665 SOC. With a starting price of Rs 9,999, this phone might just have set a new bar in the budget segment in India.
One thing that makes Realme phones stand out of the crowd is the design. Yes, we do agree that there is a plastic build, but still, all those gradient finishes & patterns make the phones look amazing. The Realme 5 has a plastic build as well, but that’s not an issue if you are a case or a skin person.
Moreover, plastic is more durable when compared to glass. It is not a cheap plastic as Realme has used high-quality plastic & a new Crystal design that looks amazing. This is definitely one of the best looking phones under Rs 10,000 in India.
The Quad Cameras are placed vertically on the rear & there is also a fingerprint scanner on the back. On the front, we get the edge-to-edge display with a waterdrop notch & slimmer bezels than Realme 3. One of the cons is the micro USB port & this is something we don’t expect in a phone priced at Rs 10,000 in 2019. But, to offer such specs at the lowest price, Realme had to cut some corners.
The display on the front is a 6.5-inch LCD with an HD+ resolution (1600 x 720) & Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Thanks to the minimal bezels, the screen-to-body ratio is 89%. Realme 5 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SOC & is the first phone to launch in India with this chip.
It is an 11nm SOC & an upgrade to the Snapdragon 660. The CPU is Kryo 260, which is same as that of Snapdragon 660. Moreover, the clock speed is lower in the case of Snapdragon 665 because it is more balanced SOC, unlike Snapdragon 660, which is a pure performance-based chip. The Snapdragon 665 does have better GPU & is an 11nm chip so is more power-efficient.
There is 3/4GB RAM & 32/64/128GB internal storage. The phone has a triple card slot so you can add two SIM cards and a micro SD card at the same time. It is also the phone from Realme with the biggest battery. It has a 5,000mAh unit that doesn’t support fast charging ( supports standard 10W charging).
The main highlight of the Realme 5 is its Quad Camera setup that makes it the first phone under 10,000 with four rear cameras. It has a primary 12MP f/1.8 camera, a secondary 8MP wide-angle camera with 119-degree FOV, a 2MP Depth sensor & a 2MP Macro lens with 4cm shooting distance.
Some camera features include AI HDR, AI beauty, AI scene recognition, Chrome boost, Super nightscape, Filter mode, Panorama mode, Expert mode, Time-Lapse mode etc. On the front, there is a 13MP f/2.0 camera.
The rear camera can shoot 4K 30fps videos & there is an option of 240fps slow-motion videos as well. There is Electronic Image Stabilization for videos.
Realme 5 has a splash-resistant design but don’t take it for a dip. As per Realme, the Splash-Proof design has passed the Real Quality test.
