In October of 2018, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 675 SOC with the Kryo 460 CPU. Later, we got a ton of smartphones with this chip from various Android phone makers. Well, two years after the launch of Snapdragon 675, Qualcomm has now announced the Snapdragon 678 SOC. The Snapdragon 678 offers some performance upgrades over the 675 & there isn’t any major upgrade. Also, just like the Snapdragon 675, 678 doesn’t support 5G. So it is meant for the budget phones with no 5G support.
Speaking of the main upgrades, Snapdragon 678 has the same Kryo 460 CPU, but the maximum clock speed is now 2.2GHz compared to 2.0GHz of the Snapdragon 675’s CPU.
There is the same Adreno 612 GPU, but Qualcomm says there are some upgrades in the GPU performance as well. There is the same Spectra 250L ISP, the same Hexagon 685 DSP, & the same X12 LTE Modem.
