In May, MediaTek launched some new smartphone SOCs, and the Helio G99 was one of them. The Helio G99 is the first G-series SOC built on the 6nm process, which means that compared to the Helio G96 (12nm), the performance, as well as power efficiency, has significantly improved. Today, Poco launched its first phone powered by this SOC, the Poco M5. It is a non-5G phone that starts at €189 / ₹12,499, and for the price, you get the best performance.

The design of the Poco M5 is quite similar to the Poco M4 5G. There are three color options, and all of them feature a leather texture on the back. The sides are flat, and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack on top alongside the IR blaster. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the side.

The MediaTek Helio G99 SOC is paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. The battery size is 5,000mAh, and the phone supports 18W fast charging. In the box, you get a 22.5W adapter.

On the front, Poco M5 has a 6.58-inch LCD with a Full-HD+ resolution, Gorilla Glass 3, 90Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch-sampling rate. Speaking of cameras, there are three on the rear. The primary camera has a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens. The other two cameras have 2MP sensors and are used for depth information and macro shots. For selfies, the phone has a 5MP camera in a waterdrop notch.

Finally, Android 12 runs out of the box with MIUI 13 on top.

The phone comes in Black, Green, and Yellow. Here is the pricing –
