Do you remember the Oppo Find X7 Ultra? That phone was launched in January last year, and it was the world’s first smartphone with dual periscope telephoto cameras. The phone had a beautiful and premium design. Today, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra was officially unveiled in China, and this is the company’s best camera phone ever, featuring some notable upgrades from last year. It is not known whether the phone will make it outside the Chinese market.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra

Design-wise, it inherits the design language of other phones under the Find X8/X8s series. Unlike last year’s Find X7 Ultra, the Find X8 Ultra has a pretty plain-looking design. There is a big circular camera module on the back with five sensors. The phone has a flat display on the front with slim bezels, a metal frame, and, a glass back. It is IP68 and IP69-certified, has a stereo speaker setup, and an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra has the Snapdragon 8 Elite, making it the only phone under the Find X8/X8s lineup with a Qualcomm chip. This chipset is paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. There is a massive 6,100mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

In terms of the display, we are looking at a big 6.82-inch 120Hz Quad-HD+ 10-bit LTPO OLED panel with Dolby Vision and 1600 nits global peak brightness. The panel supports 2160Hz PWM dimming.

The cameras are the main USP of this device. It has five sensors on the rear. The primary camera has a 1-inch 50MP Sony LYT-900 sensor with an f/1.8 lens and OIS. The ultrawide camera has a 1/2.75-inch 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor. The 3x periscope telephoto camera has a 1/1.56″ 50MP Sony LYT-700 sensor with an f/2.1 lens and OIS. The 6x periscope telephoto camera has a 1/1.95-inch 50MP Sony LYT-600 sensor with an f/3.1 lens and OIS.

Compared to the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, the Find X8 Ultra has the same primary camera, a larger sensor for both the periscope telephoto cameras, wider aperture for both the periscope telephoto cameras, but a smaller sensor for the ultrawide camera.

The selfie camera has a 32MP sensor. The phone can shoot 4K 120fps Dolby Vision videos from the rear camera and 4K 60fps videos from the selfie camera.

Finally, the phone runs on ColorOS 15 out of the box.
