Last year, OnePlus unveiled its “Nord” series of smartphones under which the company launched mid-range and budget phones such as the OnePlus Nord, Nord 10 5G, and Nord N100. Now, OnePlus has announced when we will see a new phone launching under the Nord series. The OnePlus Nord CE 5G is the next phone under this series which will make its global debut in India on the 10th of next month. The CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, said that “CE” stands for “Core Edition” which means this is a trimmed-down version of the last year’s OnePlus Nord and will be cheaper than that phone. He said –
We distilled the original Nord down to its core elements, and added a couple of extra features to bring you a phone that’s a little more than you’d expect, at an even more affordable price.
As far as the specifications are concerned, OnePlus will reveal some of them, starting from the 31st of March (Keep an eye on the company’s Twitter handle and this webpage), but if you cannot wait, then Android Central has come to the rescue. As per a report from the website, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SOC compared to the Snapdragon 765G of OnePlus Nord. There is a 6.43-inch display, and it is an AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. So in terms of the panel used, there is no downgrade when compared to the OnePlus Nord.
The Nord CE 5G has a triple camera setup on the rear, where the primary shooter sports a 64 Megapixel sensor. For comparison, the OnePlus Nord had a 48 Megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with OIS + EIS. There is a 16 Megapixel selfies shooter, so no dual selfie camera setup is there like on the Nord of last year.
Android Central said that there would be a change in design as well, with the Nord CE 5G having a camera module design similar to what we saw in the OnePlus 9 series.
In the Indian market, the OnePlus Nord launched last year at a starting price of Rs 24,999, so the Nord CE 5G is expected to start at around Rs 21-22K. This means the main competitors of this device will be the Mi 10i by Xiaomi and the Moto G 5G by Motorola, both of which have the same Snapdragon 750G SOC that powers the Nord CE 5G.
