Before the launch of OnePlus 3T in 2016, we used to get a single flagship every year from the company, but with the OnePlus 3T, the company started launching two flagships a year. So in the second half of the year, we used to get the “T” branded OnePlus flagship, for example, the OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6T, etc.
It was all fine till the OnePlus 6T, but last year, OnePlus decided to launch two flagships in the first half of the year – OnePlus 7 & OnePlus 7 Pro. This meant two flagships in the second half as well, i.e., OnePlus 7T & OnePlus 7T Pro. Well, this year as well, OnePlus launched two flagships in the first half, i.e., OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 Pro. But this time, there are rumours that we are getting only the OnePlus 8T in the second half & not the “8T Pro”.
While those rumours cannot be confirmed, we now have the major specifications of the OnePlus 8T, thanks to Android Central. Before talking about the specs, we have to mention that the above image of a OnePlus device was found in the Android 11 Developer Preview for the OnePlus 8 series & it is definitely the front design of 8T. This image shows that while the OnePlus 8 has a curved display, the 8T has a flat-screen.
Talking about the leaked specs, an exclusive report by Android Central suggests that the OnePlus 8T has a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, which means, while the display size remains the same as on the OnePlus 8, the refresh rate is now higher (compared to 90Hz).
Another upgrade comes in the form of cameras. There are four of them on the back of the 8T compared to three on the 8. The primary camera has a 48 Megapixel sensor & it is a newer sensor, so not the same IMX586 sensor as on the OnePlus 8. We are expecting the 48MP IMX689 sensor, which is present on the OnePlus 8 Pro. Anyways, the 8T has a secondary 16 Megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5 Megapixel macro camera & a 2 Megapixel depth sensor. So yet again, OnePlus has no plans to add a telephoto lens.
In June, we got to know via the Source Code of Engineering Mode app from OnePlus that the company is going to launch its upcoming device with 65W Super Warp Charge support. So, this device is most likely the OnePlus 8T. Currently, the OnePlus 8 Series supports the Warp Charge 30T, so 65W Charging is a massive upgrade.
Finally, it won’t be a surprise that the 8T comes with Snapdragon 865+ chipset & 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Well, that’s all we know so far about the OnePlus 8T & as far as the launch is concerned, the phone is launching by the end of September or in the first week of October.
