OnePlus isn’t trying to hide a lot of stuff related to its upcoming smartphone, and a lot of things are already confirmed about the phone. Today, the CEO of the company, Pete Lau, confirmed on the official OnePlus Forum that the OnePlus 6 is coming with a Metal and Glass design. In the image posted by Evan Blass a month back, we saw the phone having a kind of textured finish on the back which didn’t let us see the Glass underneath. But today, the company has officially revealed that the phone is coming with a glass back.

Well, you might be thinking why OnePlus opted for glass design and not a metal back as its previous flagships. Well, Pete Lau said –
OnePlus 6’s glass design is centred around creating a “sense of value” and “premium hand-feel.” We gave a lot of thought to how users should feel when they use the OnePlus 6. The advantages of glass over metal are manifold: glass communicates a transparent, bright, and pure feeling. The way glass transforms under different lighting is a particularly important challenge—the OnePlus design team tested over 70 glass prototypes before selecting the best one.
Talking about the build of the phone, Pete said –
OnePlus 6’s glass back contains five printed layers of Nanotech Coating, a first in the smartphone industry. We applied 5 layers of Nanotech Coating instead of 3, even though the degree of separation between each layer is extremely subtle and tough to discern. However, the additional layers give the back of the device a stronger impression of depth that our most demanding users will surely appreciate. Closely examine the OnePlus 6 and you’ll indeed see this subtle nuance embedded in each device.
It is hard to say if the phone has wireless charging support or not but it is also officially confirmed that the OnePlus 6 has some IP rating (most probably IP67). The phone does have a notch on the front which is not new as every other smartphone company is following this trend this year. Snapdragon 845 processor powers the phone and there is up to 8GB RAM. It is also officially confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will have a 256GB ROM option as well.
