OnePlus 12 renders give us our first look at the design

The periscope camera is happening!

The OnePlus 11 was launched in January in the Chinese market, and in February, the device was launched globally. It is the current flagship from the brand, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC, a Sony IMX890 sensor, 100W fast charging, and more. In May, we got a leak that revealed the key specifications of the next year’s OnePlus 12, and we got to know that OnePlus is finally adding a periscope camera to its flagship phone.

Today, we got our first look at the phone’s design thanks to OnLeaks, who shared the renders of the OnePlus 12.

As we can see, the design confirms that the phone has a periscope camera on the back. If you do not know, a regular smartphone camera has a lens behind which sits the camera sensor. So, the light comes through the lens and falls on the sensor, which captures the image.

But, in the case of periscope cameras, there is not just one camera lens. Instead, there is an “L-shaped” tunnel. A prism is placed behind the rectangular cutout that you see for periscope smartphone cameras. This prism takes the incoming light and bends it at 90 degrees, which is then passed on to an array of lenses, and finally, the light reaches the camera sensor. Since there is more space in this “L-shaped” tunnel, the lenses have more space to move left or right; hence, we see those big zoom numbers associated with periscope cameras.

So the bottom line is the OnePlus 12 is finally getting a periscope camera, which the fans have been asking for a long time.

Also, as we mentioned, the periscope camera has an “L-shaped” tunnel, so that’s the reason you don’t see any other component or other camera sensor placed on the side of the periscope camera. That’s the case with the OnePlus 12 since the LED flash module is moved to the top left corner of the camera module instead of in the circular part.

On the front, OnePlus 12 has a curved display with a hole punch cutout in the middle. This differs from the OnePlus 11, which has a hole punch cutout on the top left corner.

The alert slider is on the right with the power button. The volume rockers are on the left.

As we know, OnePlus 12 will feature the next flagship SOC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650). The battery size, charging speed, and display will remain the same as OnePlus 11. The triple rear camera setup will feature a primary 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS, a 50MP sensor for the ultrawide camera, and a 64MP sensor for the periscope camera.
