In February last year, the OnePlus 11 was launched in the global market, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a Quad-HD+ display, 100W charging, and more for a starting price of $699 / €849 / £729 / ₹56,999. Today, the OnePlus 12 was launched globally. This is the company’s premium flagship for 2024 and will compete with the best that other brands have to offer this year. The phone brings some big upgrades over the predecessor.

It is worth mentioning that the phone was launched in China in December last year.

OnePlus 12

Design-wise, the OnePlus 12 retains the design language of its predecessor, but there are some improvements to the design. There is a circular camera module that sits in a metal housing that extends from the frame of the phone. Unlike the OnePlus 11, which had the same black-colored camera module for all the color options, the camera module on the OnePlus 12 matches the color of the body, hence the design looks cleaner. The camera module is also bigger than the OnePlus 11.

The phone comes in two colors for the global market – Flowy Emerald & Silky Black.

There is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port on the bottom, and the phone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The phone is IP65 water and dust-resistant. While it is not as good as the IP67 or IP68 certification which we see on the premium flagships from other brands, it is still an upgrade since the OnePlus 11 did not have any IP rating. Alongside the IP rating, the OnePlus 12 also supports wireless charging, something the OnePlus 11 lacked.

There is the good old alert slider on the left side. On the front, the phone has a curved display with a hole punch cutout in the middle.

The display on this phone is pretty interesting. This is a 6.82-inch Quad-HD+ (3168 x 1440 pixels) LTPO OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. The display has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, 10-bit color depth, HDR10+ support, Dolby Vision, 2160Hz PWM dimming, and an astonishing 4,500 nits peak brightness (1600 nits high-brightness mode).

This is an “Aqua Touch” display that can be used even in rain or with wet fingers. The display has the DisplayMate’s A+ rating, and this panel has set or matched 18 smartphone display records.

The camera setup gets some notable upgrades, too. The OnePlus 12 has three cameras on the rear. The primary camera has a 1/1.4″ 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor with an f/1.6 lens and OIS. The ultrawide camera has a 1/2″ 48MP Sony IMX581 sensor with a 114-degree FOV lens. The third camera is a periscope telephoto camera with a 1/2″ 64MP OmniVision OV64B sensor, OIS, f/2.6 lens, and 3x Optical Zoom. This makes it the first OnePlus flagship featuring a periscope camera. There is also a 13-channel multi-spectral sensor.

For selfies, the phone has a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor with fixed focus.

The phone can shoot 8K 30fps videos from the rear camera and 4K 30fps videos from the front camera.

OnePlus 12

In terms of performance, the OnePlus 12 is rocking the most powerful smartphone SOC right now, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. There is LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The phone also has the largest vapor chamber on any smartphone, with a total vapor chamber area of 9140mm². There are two vapor chambers at 3686mm² and 5454mm², respectively. OnePlus claims that the thermal conductivity is improved by more than 3 times compared to the VC of the OnePlus 11.

The battery is also one of the highlights of this phone since it has a massive 5,400mAh battery. There is 100W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. OnePlus claims the 100W charger can fully charge the battery in just 26 minutes. The 50W wireless charger can completely charge the phone in 55 minutes.

The phone supports WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Finally, OxygenOS 14.0 runs out of the box, based on Android 14. The phone will receive four Android OS updates.
