Last year in August, Samsung launched its 2nd Generation Galaxy Fold named the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which offered some significant upgrades over the first Galaxy Fold smartphone, such as a bigger outer display, a much better hinge mechanism, 120Hz panel, etc. Last year, we also got the vertically folding smartphone from Samsung named the Galaxy Z Flip, which was later upgraded with a 5G version. Well, today, we got to see the designs of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 & the Galaxy Z Flip 3, as the official images of these phones were shared by Evan Blass on Twitter.
The biggest new feature that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is coming with is the S-Pen support. As seen in the image above, the S-Pen has a text that says “Fold Edition,” so it seems like the S-Pen for the Z Fold 3 will have some features exclusive to the Fold. The camera module on the rear is also slightly different in terms of the design, so there is no longer a rectangular camera island that houses the three lenses. The fingerprint scanner is there on the right side & despite a lot of talk regarding the under-display selfie camera, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a hole-punch in the inner folding screen where the selfie shooter is placed.
The images don’t show the outer display, so we cannot say whether there is some change compared to the last year’s model or not.
Speaking of the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the biggest design change is on the outside, where we now have the dual-camera setup placed vertically instead of horizontally to make space for the secondary display, which is now bigger in size than on the last year’s model. The image also shows a two-tone design where the region around the display is Black, and the rest of the body is of a different color. Also, if we focus on the naming style, Samsung wants to keep the Z Fold & the Z Flip series on the same track, so that’s why there is no Z Flip 2, and instead, we are getting the Z Flip 3.
Well, there is no official word from Samsung on when we can expect these phones to launch, but since the last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 launched in August, we are expecting these two to be made official in August this year as well.
