Two months ago, Motorola launched the Edge 20 series that included three phones, the Edge 20 Lite, the regular Edge 20 & the flagship Edge 20 Pro. In August, Motorola brought two of those three phones to the Indian market – the Edge 20 Fusion (Edge20 Lite with Dimensity 800U) & the regular Edge 20. Today, Motorola launched the third phone under this series in India. So, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is now official in the Indian market and is right now the highest-end phone that the company offers in India.
The phone is priced at ₹36,999, so it is not as aggressively priced as other Snapdragon 870 phones in India, such as the iQOO 7 or Xiaomi Mi 11X. In terms of the design, you get a premium Gorilla Glass 5 back & a metal frame, so there is no cost-cutting done in terms of the design. Moreover, the back panel has a matte finish instead of a glossy finish which means lesser fingerprints. There are three cameras on the back, and while the camera setup is quite similar to that of the Edge 20, there is a new periscope camera on the top that offers extra optical zoom than the normal telephoto lens. On the front, the phone has a flat display with a centered hole-punch design.
In terms of the specs, Motorola Edge 20 Pro offers a 6.7-inch 10-bit OLED with a Full-HD+ resolution & a 144Hz refresh rate. The panel supports HDR10+ content and is protected with the Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G chip, and this is definitely a more stable SOC than the Snapdragon 888 or 888+ since many users report heating issues in the 888 or 888+, but that’s not the case with 870. The phone comes in only one storage option that includes 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage.
The triple camera setup on the back includes a primary 108 Megapixel sensor with no OIS, a secondary 8MP periscope-style zoom camera with OIS & 5X Optica Zoom, and finally, a 16 Megapixel ultrawide with a field-of-view of 119-degrees. This ultrawide camera also works as a macro camera, so you can go as close a 4cm to an object.
Finally, the phone packs a 4,500mAh cell and supports 30W TurboCharging. Android 11 runs out of the box, and Motorola has promised updates to Android 12 & 13. The phone also supports 11 5G bands.
In India, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is priced at ₹36,999, so while it is more expensive than the Xiaomi Mi 11X or the iQOO 7, it is cheaper than the OnePlus 9R which is yet another Snapdragon 870-powered phone which starts at ₹39999. If you want a powerful phone with a stock Android experience, this should be the one to go for since all other phones at this price give you custom skins on top of Android. The phone will be available on Flipkart.
