Just like last year, we are now getting details about the roadmap of 2018’s Motorola Moto devices, and in the last post, we talked about the ‘Play’ series that is going to be reintroduced with next year’s Moto G and Moto E phones. Evan Blass has now revealed that the Moto X series is going away since Motorola will indeed launch the Moto X5, a successor to this year’s Moto X4. There is no word on the ‘Play’ branded Moto X next year yet.
The Moto X4 of this year is a great mid-range smartphone that packs some of the unique features at a price under $400. You will hardly find any phone with similar glass and aluminum design, IP68 dust, and water resistant rating, almost stock Android, and great camera setup. With the Moto X5 of 2018, we can expect to see the same Glass and Aluminum design and IP68 rating along with the upgraded processor, camera, battery and the display.
The Moto X4 was introduced a few months back so we cannot expect the X5 to launch along with the Moto Gs next year. It will launch most probably in the Q2 or Q3 2018. There are no details of the specifications yet so stay tuned.
