Moto G62 & Moto G42 officially announced

One has 5G support and the other does not

Motorola has announced two new Moto G series phones, the Moto G42 & Moto G62. The company has not yet shared the pricing & availability details, but these phones are coming soon to markets including Asia, Europe, Brazil, the Middle East, and Latin America. As the names suggest, the G42 is a successor to the G41 & the G62 is a successor to the G60. It is also worth mentioning that the G42 is a non-5G phone, whereas the G62 is a 5G phone.

Speaking of the G42, the design is a bit different than the recent Moto G series phones. That’s primarily due to the camera module design. It still has a vertically placed triple camera setup, but the camera module is less rounded. It packs a stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and a flat display with a hole punch cutout.

Moto G42 has a 6.4-inch 60Hz OLED panel with a Full-HD+ resolution. The SOC is the Snapdragon 680 & there is a 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging support. The triple camera setup on the rear includes a primary 50MP sensor, an 8MP ultrawide & a 2MP macro camera. For selfies, the phone has a 16MP sensor. Finally, Android 12 runs out of the box with MyUX on top.

Compared to Moto G41, there is a 50MP sensor vs. 48MP, but the G41 had OIS for the primary camera, which is not present on the G42. The selfie camera is upgraded from 13MP to 16MP, but the charging speed is downgraded from 30W to 20W. Finally, G41 had the Helio G85 SOC, whereas the G42 has Snapdragon 680.

The Moto G62 is a 5G phone, hence there are some compromises, one of the biggest being the LCD panel instead of an OLED. There is a 6.5-inch 120Hz IPS LCD with a Full-HD+ resolution. The SOC is the Snapdragon 480+, the same chip that powered the last year’s Moto G51. There is a 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging support. The triple camera setup on the rear includes a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera. The phone packs a 16MP sensor for selfies.

Well, the specifications are quite identical to the Moto G51’s because even that phone had the same triple camera setup, same battery size, same charging speed, same SOC & a 120Hz IPS LCD. The only difference is a 16MP selfie camera on the G62 compared to a 13MP sensor on the G51.

Motorola is yet to share the price and availability details. Stay tuned.
