Almost a month after the global launch, the Moto G51 is now official in the Indian market. As the naming suggests, this is a better phone than the Moto G31 that launched in India last month. Some of the highlights of the G51 include 5G support (thanks to the Snapdragon 480+ SOC), a 120Hz display, a 5,000mAh battery & a 50MP camera.

Moto G51

Design-wise, this is a phone made out of polycarbonate, so you don’t get any glass or metal on the back or the frame. The phone has an IP52 rating, so minor splashes of water should not cause any damage. There is a fingerprint scanner on the right side which doubles as a power button. There is an extra button on the right as well, which is to trigger the Google Assistant. Now, the placement of this button is quite weird because it is placed way high up on the right side. The same was the case with Moto G31.

The 3.5mm headphone jack is there on the bottom, along with the USB Type-C ((USB 2.0) port. The phone has a single bottom-firing speaker. And finally, on the front, Moto G51 has a flat panel with a centered hole-punch cutout.

Moto G51

In terms of the specs, Moto G51 has a large 6.8-inch panel on the front, but unlike the Moto G31 that has an AMOLED, the G51 gets an LCD. Now, this is a 120Hz panel, so that’s one good thing about the display.

Under the hood, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ SOC, and before you judge the performance by the name, we want to mention that the Snapdragon 480+ is perhaps one of the most powerful chipsets that you can find under 15,000 in India. Yes, the name of this SOC makes us believe that it is an entry-level SOC, but in terms of performance, it is comparable to something like a Snapdragon 720G or even the 732G! This chip also supports 5G & the Moto G51 supports 12 5G bands.

In terms of the cameras, it is the same camera setup as on the Moto G31. So, there is a primary 50MP sensor on the back, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera. For selfies, there is a 13MP camera. The battery size is 5,000mAh, and the phone supports 20W TurboCharging, again the same as for Moto G31.

And finally, the phone runs on Android 11 out of the box. There is only one variant of Moto G51 in India that has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage (expandable). It is priced at ₹14,999. The color options are named Indigo Blue and Bright Silver. You can buy the phone via Flipkart, starting December 16th.
