Last year, we got the Moto G Stylus, a budget phone from Motorola that had a built-in stylus. Later this year, we got the Moto G Stylus 2021, which had a different design, a bigger display, and a better chipset. Today, Motorola launched the Moto G Stylus 5G in the US, and as the name suggests, its main USP is that it supports 5G, something the previous two phones under this lineup didn’t. This 5G device is priced at $399, and at this price, it offers the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480G chipset, which is the first 400-series SOC from Qualcomm that offers 5G support.
Design-wise, Moto G Stylus 5G features a different camera setup design on the rear, and the body is made out of plastic. There is a flat display with a hole punch on the top left corner, and this time, the fingerprint scanner is on the rear and not on the side as on the Moto G Stylus 2021. It is a quite thick phone at 9.35mm and weighs 217 grams. The phone also has a Water Repellent design, something we have seen on a lot of Motorola phones so far.
In terms of the display, this phone rocks a big 6.8-inch Full-HD+ LTPS panel with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It is a normal panel with a 60Hz refresh rate, so it seems like Motorola didn’t change the display at all when compared to the Moto G Stylus 2021. What is changed, however, is the chipset that powers the Moto G Stylus 5G. It is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480G, and it seems like for 5G support, Motorola seriously downgraded the overall performance of this phone when compared to the Moto G Stylus 2021 because that phone has the much powerful Snapdragon 678 SOC.
There is 6GB RAM paired with 256GB storage that is expandable via a microSD card of up to 1TB.
There are four cameras on the back that include a primary 48 Megapixel shooter with an f/1.7 aperture lens paired with an 8 Megapixel ultrawide camera, a 5 Megapixel macro camera, and a depth sensor. The rear camera is capable of shooting up to 1080p 60fps videos. On the front, there is a 16 Megapixel camera for selfies.
Finally, there is a 5,000mAh battery, but no fast charging support as the phone supports 10W charging. Android 11 runs out of the box.
Moto G Stylus 5G comes in a single color option named Cosmic Emerald, and in the US, it is priced at $399. The sales start on the 14th of June.
