Today, we got the first phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset from Motorola named Moto Edge X30. It launched in China for a starting price of ¥3199, which translates roughly to $500, which is an incredible value for money. As we talked about in our previous article, Motorola also launched the Moto Edge S30 in China today, which is just a rebadged Moto G200. Motorola launched two variants of the Edge X30, where one is a normal variant with a hole-punch for the selfie camera, whereas there is a higher-end variant with an under-display selfie camera.
Design-wise, the phone looks exactly how we saw it in the leaked renders earlier. So, there is a glass back with a triple camera module, a centered batwing logo & also the Motorola text logo on the bottom. There is a USB Type-C port on the bottom, and to no surprise, this phone lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the front, this phone gets a flat panel with a centered hole-punch cutout. The variant with an under-display camera has the same front design except that there is no cutout for the selfie camera; hence the front looks cleaner.
The biggest selling point of this phone is definitely its chip. It has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC, which is the latest flagship chip by Qualcomm based on the 4nm manufacturing process. This SOC scores over a million on the AnTuTu benchmark and comes with the latest ARMv9-based CPU cores. Apart from Qualcomm’s numbers, Motorola says that compared to Snapdragon 888+, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offers 20% and 30% better CPU & GPU performance, respectively. For AI tasks, this new chip performs 400% better!
The phone gets LPDDR5 RAM paired with UFS 3.1 storage which is a standard these days for flagships.
Let’s talk about the cameras. There is a triple camera module on the back where the primary shooter houses a 50MP sensor. This is a 50MP OV50A sensor from OmniVision, and the sensor size is 1/1.55-inch. Moreover, OIS is also there for the primary camera. For ultrawide photos, the phone gets another 50MP camera, but this one is a Samsung’s ISOCELL S5KGM1 sensor. Finally, the phone has a 2MP camera for depth information. 8K video recording is possible.
And that’s not the most interesting part about the cameras. On the front, there is a 60 Megapixel camera for selfies. Yes! 60 Megapixels! This is a 1/2.8-inch sensor. So this phone definitely has a selfie camera with the most megapixels on any phone to date.
Moto Edge X30 has a big 5,000mAh battery and supports 68W fast charging as well. This makes it the fastest charging phone that Motorola has ever launched. Finally, the phone runs on Android 12 out of the box.
In China, the Moto Edge X30 comes in two colors & here is the pricing –
- 8GB + 128GB – ¥3199 ($500)
- 8GB + 256GB – ¥3399 ($533)
- 12GB + 256GB – ¥3599 ($564)
The variant with an under-display selfie shooter is priced at ¥3999 or around $630. Just as for the Moto Edge S30, the Edge X30 also gets a discount of ¥200 for the first sale. So that brings the starting price down to ¥2999 or $470!
The sale starts on the 15th of December in the Chinese market.
