MediaTek has launched a new mid-range chipset, the Dimensity 8050. This SOC is built on the TSMC’s 6nm process, which is interesting since the Dimensity 8000 was a 5nm chip, and going by the name, the 8050 is supposed to be better than the 8000.
The CPU includes four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 3.0GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. This makes it better in terms of CPU than not only the Dimensity 8000 but also the Dimensity 8100. But, while the 8000 and 8100 support LPDDR5 RAM, the Dimensity 8050 supports LPDDR4X RAM.
The GPU is the 9-core Arm Mali-G77, which supports 4K video recording. There is support for a Full-HD+ display at up to 168Hz.
Other features include MediaTek APU 580, UFS 3.1, Dual SIM Dual Standby 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, 200MP sensor support, etc.
As for the first phone with this SOC, Tecno launched its Camon 20 Premier in the global market today, the first phone powered by the Dimensity 8050 SOC. The phone has a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 50MP primary sensor with sensor-shift OIS, a 108MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. The battery size is 5,000mAh, and the phone supports 45W charging.
