MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ arrives with 10-bit display support

Phones powered by Dimensity 6100+ will launch in Q3 2023

MediaTek’s budget and mid-range SOC lineup have become quite confusing lately, with the brand launching the same chipsets with different names. MediaTek has launched a new mid-range SOC under the 6000 series, the Dimensity 6100+. Going by the name, this should be the most powerful chipset under the 6000 family. MediaTek says the first set of devices with this chipset will launch in Q3 2023 or, simply put, in the current quarter.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ is built on the TSMC’s N6 (6nm) process, the same as the Dimensity 6080. There is an octa-core CPU with 2x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.2GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores at up to 2.0GHz. Interstingly, the Dimensity 6080, which has the same core configuration, has two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz. The Dimensity 6080 has a more powerful CPU than the Dimensity 6100+.  The GPU is the same – Arm Mali-G57 MC2.

The Dimensity 6100+ supports displays with up to 2520 x 1080 pixels resolution and 10-bit colors. The 10-bit display support is missing on the Dimensity 6080 or 6020. The Dimensity 6100+ supports Bluetooth 5.2, compared to Bluetooth 5.1 in Dimensity 6080 and 6020.

Speaking of 5G support, Dimensity 6100+ has a 3GPP Release-16 standard 5G modem, supporting peak download speeds up to 3.3Gbps. This is an upgrade over the Dimebsity 6080 or 6020, with peak download speeds of up to 2.77 Gbps. The chip supports only sub-6GHz 5G, the same as the other two SOCs in the family.

The rest of the features are identical to other SOCs in the 6000 series.
