Google announced Andrmooid Pie on August 6, and as expected, the Google Pixel devices were the first to get updated to the latest version of Android. But, what about all the other smartphones from various manufacturers? This particular article is all about the phones that are getting or are expected to get the Android Pie Update officially, and we have tried to include phones from every popular smartphone company. Still, if you think we missed any, feel free to let us know via the comments section.
Before jumping straight into the list, we think it is worth talking about the new features that the Android Pie has. These new features make it stand out from all the previous Android versions. As we know, every Android version has something unique that differentiates it from the previous generation.
Android Lollipop was first to have a material design, Android Marshmallow was the first to have control over individual App permissions, Android Nougat brought the Split Screen feature, Enhanced Doze mode, along with several new design changes and then came Android Oreo that completely changed the overall design of notification panel and the settings.
ANDROID PIE – ALL THE NEW FEATURES
ACCESSIBILITY
Android Pie brings the new accessibility menu that makes tasks like taking screenshots or using the one hand mode much easier to perform. With Android 9 Pie, there is now OCR support for S2S in the camera and even a picture. So, while pointing the camera to the image that has text, you can select the text, and it will be read aloud. Same is the case with the pictures in the gallery. Finally, there is the Sound Amplifier that lets the user tweak over a 100 settings to improve the overall audio output.
BATTERY
With each Android version, we get some new battery related features. Android Pie is no exception as we get Adaptive Battery feature that learns how you use the apps, thanks to machine learning. So, once it learns how you use apps, it knows which apps you might use in the next few hours. So, it can then optimize the battery in such a way that the apps you won’t be using in the next few hours won’t be able to use much of the battery. The battery saver is also enhanced a lot in Android Pie.
Finally, there are background restrictions that let you restrict certain apps from using the battery in the background.
DIGITAL WELLBEING –
Digital Wellbeing is a pretty unique feature in Android Pie that shows how much you use a certain app. It shows how frequently you’re using any application and how many notifications you’re getting. The Do Not Disturb mode now not only mutes the notifications but also the other visual interruptions. There is now a feature called ‘Wind Down’ which turns the screen to grayscale so that the blue light doesn’t affect your sleep. Finally, there is a very interesting feature called App Timer. With this, you can set a time for which you want to use any application. Once you reach that limit, the app will be paused for the rest of the day.
NOTCH SUPPORT
Well, we already know about this feature as it was introduced with the Developer Preview. As all the smartphone manufacturers are now going for notched displays, Android Pie comes with the Notch support, so it supports the phones with notches to use all of the screen space.
MEDIA
Android Pie brings some new features related to Media like Multiple Bluetooth connections that let the users connect up to 5 Bluetooth devices and also switch between them seamlessly. There is sound delay reporting that ensures that the video and audio are in sync while you’re watching media using headphones. If you had previously set the sound for any Bluetooth device, then that sound level will be retained once you reconnect that Bluetooth device. Some other media features include HEIF photos support, HD Audio, and HDR VP9 Profile 2 support.
OTHER FEATURES
Some other features of Android Pie include Redesigned Quick Settings, the Screenshots editor, Rotation Button, New Animations for App opening and closing, Volume Controls, Slices, App Actions and more.
