iQOO 9 with a 50MP Samsung GN5 sensor launching on January 5
It is the successor to this year's iQOO 8
In August this year, the iQOO 8 series went official, which included two phones under it – the vanilla iQOO 8 & the iQOO 8 Pro. Now, the company is all set to launch its successor in China. The iQOO 9 is in the news for quite some time, and now, the company has announced that it is launching the phone on the 5th of January. Like the previous generation, the iQOO 9 Pro is also launching on the same day.
Design-wise, the phone has a long camera module on the rear with a lot of unused space. Maybe it was designed so just to make it look unique. There are three cameras in this module, and the empty space on the right side only has the text which says “OIS,” “Ultra Sensing,” and some camera specifications. The racing stripe design is still here, which we have seen in a previous couple of generations. On the front, there is a flat display with a hole-punch cutout in the center
What we do know is that the iQOO 9 has a primary camera with a 50 Megapixel sensor by Samsung, and there is OIS as well. It is the 1/1.57″ ISOCELL GN5 sensor with an individual pixel size of 1.0μm and supports up to 8K 30fps video recording as well. This same sensor is what we expect to see on the Galaxy S22 & S22 Plus of next year, so that’s interesting. Now, it is worth mentioning that while the name makes this sensor look better than the GN1 or GN2, that’s not the case. GN1 is a large 1/1.12″ sensor with a 1.2μm pixel size, whereas the GN1 has a sensor size of 1/1.12″ and an individual pixel size of 1.4μm. So, both these sensors are superior.
According to Digital Chat Station, iQOO 9 has a large 6.78-inch display on the front, and it is an E5 AMOLED by Samsung with a Full-HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Now, the iQOO 9 Pro should not be much different in terms of the design, but there is a curved display on that phone instead of a flat panel. We are also expecting a Quad-HD+ resolution instead of FHD+.
We have also seen the camera module of the iQOO 9 Pro, thanks to Digital Chat Station. The camera module has the same design as on the iQOO 9 but, the phone has Gimbal Stabilization which is better than the normal OIS that the non-Pro model has. The main sensor is a 50MP sensor. There is a second 150-degree ultrawide camera, similar to what the Realme GT 2 Pro has. There is a third telephoto lens with OIS.
