Honor Magic 2 now shows up in a couple of live images

A couple of months back at the IFA 2018, Huawei announced that it would be launching the successor to Honor Magic in a few months. Finally, on October 31, Honor Magic 2 is launching with a sliding camera mechanism and a bezel-less design. Till now, we didn’t have details of the phone, but today, the live images were shared on Weibo by a user. Also, the phone showed up on TENAA which revealed the major specifications.

As expected, the Honor Magic 2 has a bezel-less display (almost) with even bezels all around. The chin is just slightly bigger than the bezels on the top and the sides. The rear of the phone resembles the Huawei P20 Pro as there is a vertical triple camera setup. This time, however, the phone has two cameras and the flash placed in a single module, and the third camera is placed below that module. This is a slightly different design compared to P20 Pro’s camera setup since the P20 Pro has the LED flash placed below the three lenses.

The Honor Magic 2 has a sliding mechanism for the front camera, sensors and the earpiece. This is a similar design approach as there is on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and the Oppo Find X. This is done so that there is no need to add a notch or a cutout on the front to add the camera or any sensors.

Coming to the specifications, TENAA listing revealed that Magic 2 has a 6.39-inch AMOLED Full-HD+ display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is more than 90%. The phone has an octa-core 2.6GHz Kirin 980 processor, which is a 7nm chipset seen previously in the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro from Huawei. There is 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. There is no support for external micro SD card (maybe not even nano-memory card support).

On the rear, there is a triple camera setup that includes 16MP + 24MP + 16MP sensors. We don’t know whether there is going to be a wide angle lens or a monochrome one, but the former is expected. On the front, there is a 16MP camera and sensors for 3D Face Unlock. There is a 3,400mAh battery that will support 40W Fast Charging as well as Wireless Charging.

Overall, Honor Magic 2 seems like a pretty solid device from the company, both regarding specifications as well as the design. We will know more about the phone at the October 31st event.
