Honor Magic 2 launched with Kirin 980 & bezel-less display

2018 started with Android phones having notches and cutouts for the front camera and the sensors but looks like it is going to end with phones with almost 100% bezel-less displays and no cutouts whatsoever. We have seen this already with phones like the Oppo Find X, Vivo NEX, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, the ZTE Nubia X etc. Today, the Honor Magic 2 was officially launched in China. As expected, it is an gorgeous device with a bezel-less design and a slider for the front-facing cameras and the sensors.

Design wise, the Honor Magic 2 looks similar to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro from the rear. There is a similar triple camera setup on the rear that is placed vertically. The fingerprint scanner is not on the rear since it is placed under the display. The Magic 2 has a similar slider mechanism for the front camera and the sensors as there is on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. It is a magnetic slider, so there are no motors whatsoever. The company says that the phone has a 5 rail sliding mechanism.

The Honor Magic 2 has a 6.39-inch AMOLED panel with a Full-HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080) & 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone does have a small bottom chin, and the screen-to-body ratio is 91.5%. The company didn’t mention any Gorilla Glass protection on the official site, but since it is a premium phone from the company, we are sure that it has one.

The Honor Magic 2 has a 7nm Kirin 980 processor which is an octa-core processor with 2x Cortex A76 at 2.6GHz + 2x Cortex A76 at 1.92GHz & 4x Cortex A55 at 1.8GHz. There is a Mali-G76 GPU, and the Kirin 980 also features Dual NPUs for better AI related tasks. There is 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128/256GB UFS 2.1 internal storage. There is also a 512GB ROM model that is coming next month.

The Honor Magic 2 has triple rear cameras. There is a 16MP f/1.8 primary sensor, a 24MP f/1.8 monochrome sensor and a 16MP f/2.2 wide-angle sensor. There are triple cameras on the front as well. So, the phone has a primary 16MP f/2.0 front camera, along with dual 2MP f/2.4 cameras. The camera features include 480fps slow motion, AI Photography, Portrait Lighting, Pro Mode, Portrait Mode, AR Stickers etc. The rear camera(s) can shoot 4K videos.

The Honor Magic 2 has 3,400mAh battery that supports Huawei’s 40W Fast Charging (The company calls it ‘Magic Charge’). Android Pie is running out of the box with the Magic UI 2.0 (EMUI 9) on top.

The Honor Magic 2 comes in three colours – Gradient Black, Gradient Blue and Gradient Red. The 6GB + 128GB variant is priced at 3,799 Yuan ($545) , the 8GB + 256GB variant at 4,799 Yuan ($688).
