After a lot of leaks, official teasers & more, the Honor 9X & 9X Pro launched in China today & both are mid-range phones from the brand with impressive specifications. The price starts at 1,399 Yuan in case of the regular 9X & goes up to 1,899 Yuan. When it comes to the 9X Pro, the price starts at 2,199 Yuan & goes up to 2,399 Yuan. Compared to the last year’s Honor 8X, the 9X comes with a lot of improvements & upgrades in almost every aspect.
HONOR 9X – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS
Design-wise, the Honor 9X looks absolutely gorgeous, especially in the Red & Blue color options. There is a premium glass back that shows the “X” pattern when light falls on it. The dual-camera setup is placed vertically & the fingerprint scanner is now placed on the side like on the Honor 20 series. On the front, there is a full-screen design with no notch or cutout for the front camera.
The front camera gets a pop-up mechanism & it’s not new as we already have phones from brands like Realme, Redmi etc. with pop-up camera in the mid-range segment. Unlike the Honor 8X, we get the USB Type-C port this time & yes, the headphone jack is still there.
The display on the 9X is a 6.59-inch Full-HD+ LTPS panel with a pixel density of 391PPI. The phone has a tiny bottom chin, but that’s normal in this price segment. The company doesn’t mention any Gorilla Glass protection on the official site, but we hope there is some kind of display protection.
Under the hood, there is 7nm Kirin 810 SOC, which features an octa-core processor with 2x Cortex A76 cores clocked at 2.27GHz & 6x Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.88GHz. It is also the first 7nm mid-range processor. So, after the Snapdragon 855 (855 Plus), Kirin 980 & the Apple A12 Bionic, this is the only 7nm SOC in the market currently.
It is better than other mid-range chips like Snapdragon 730 not just in terms of the performance but also power efficiency.
The phone comes with 4/6GB RAM & 64/128GB storage. There is a micro SD card slot as well to expand the storage up to 512GB. The battery underneath is a 4,000mAh unit & the phone doesn’t feature Fast Charging. There is normal 10W charging support.
There is a dual-camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 48MP f/1.8 camera & a secondary 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP f/2.2 camera. Some camera features include 3D Portrait Light Effect, Portrait mode, AI Anti-Shake, 480fps super slow-motion videos, Super Night Mode and more.
Finally, Android 9 Pie runs out of the box with EMUI 9.1.1 on top.
The color options are Phantom Blue, Phantom Red & Magic Night Black.
HONOR 9X PRO – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS
The Honor 9X Pro isn’t much different than the 9X except for the fact that it has triple rear cameras. Rest of the design remains the same with a full-screen design, pop-up selfie camera & glass back with an “X” pattern.
The display size & resolution is the same, i.e., a 6.59-inch Full-HD+ LTPS panel. There is Kirin 810 chip powering the 9X Pro as well & the phone comes with 8GB RAM & 128/256GB storage.
Its main highlight is the triple camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 48 Megapixel camera & a 2MP depth sensor. There is a third 8MP wide-angle camera, something that the 9X lacks. The front camera is again the same as that on 9X, i.e., a 16MP f/2.2 snapper.
The Honor 9X Pro has a 4,000mAh battery & charges via the Type-C port. Android 9 Pie runs out of the box with EMUI 9.1.1 on top. One more thing that makes the 9X Pro better than the 9X is the addition of liquid cooling.
The color options for the 9X Pro are Magic Night Black & Phantom Purple.
