Google Pixel 9a to feature a 48MP primary sensor

The same sensor as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold?

Earlier this month, we got the CAD-based renders of the Google Pixel 9a, revealing a flat-frame design and no camera bar. The phone is expected to launch next year, and while we still have some months to go, a new report by Android Headlines has revealed the camera specifications of the phone.

Google Pixel 9a

As per the source, the Google Pixel 9a is not going to use the 64MP sensor seen on the Pixel 8a. Instead, Google is using a 48MP sensor on this phone. It is not yet confirmed which sensor it is, but it is quite likely that the phone uses the same 48MP sensor that we have on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

If that’s the case, then the Google Pixel 9a will feature a 1/2.0″ 48MP sensor with 0.8µm pixel size and dual-pixel PDAF. Now, on paper, this is a smaller sensor than the one on the Google Pixel 8a. The 64MP sensor on the Pixel 8a was a 1/1.73″ sensor, versus the 1/2.0″ 48MP sensor on the Pixel 9a.

The other two cameras on the Pixel 9a are the same as Pixel 8a. There is a 13MP sensor for the ultrawide camera and a 13MP sensor for the selfie camera.

The phone is expected to launch with Tensor G4 SOC.
