The Google Pixel 9 series is expected to launch on August 13, and unlike previous years, where we’ve had two Pixel smartphones, Google is launching four this year under the Pixel 9 series. These are named Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. So, the foldable Google Pixel is now in the same series as the regular devices.
We have the camera specifications of all the phones under the Pixel 9 series, courtesy of Android Authority. It looks like Google has made some notable upgrades to the upcoming Pixel devices.
The Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro & Pixel 9 Pro XL will feature a primary 50MP Samsung GNK sensor, the same sensor that was used on the Pixel 8 series. The ultrawide camera has been upgraded as it now uses the 1/2.5″ Sony IMX858 sensor, versus the 1/2.8″ Sony IMX386 last year. The Pixel 9 does not have a telephoto camera, but the other two phones have it.
The telephoto camera on the Pixel 9 Pro & Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 1/2.51” 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor with OIS. For comparison, the Pixel 8 Pro featured a 1/2.55” 48MP Samsung GM5 sensor last year.
Finally, speaking of the selfie shooter, it is the 1/3″ 10.5MP Samsung 3J1 sensor on the Google Pixel 9 with autofocus. There was no autofocus on the Pixel 8’s selfie camera last year. The Pixel 9 Pro & Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a 1/2.51” 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor for the selfie camera with autofocus.
As for the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, it has a triple camera setup on the back. The primary camera uses the same 1/2″ 48MP Sony IMX787 sensor with OIS as the Google Pixel Fold last year. The ultrawide camera has the 1/3.2″ 12MP Samsung 3LU sensor, which seems like a downgrade from the 1/2.8″ Sony IMX386 sensor on the Pixel Fold. The telephoto camera uses a 1/3″ 10.5MP Samsung 3J1 sensor, the same as the predecessor.
As for the selfie cameras, both the selfie cameras on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold have a 1/3.94″ 10MP Samsung 3K1 sensor.
With these camera upgrades, there are also reports of 8K video recording support finally coming to the Pixels.
