Two months ago, we got our first look at the Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro as the renders of both these phones were shared by Jon Prosser from FrontPageTech. These renders were based on actual images of the phones shared by a source & we got to know that this time, Google is going all out with the design. There is no longer the same design language that we have seen in the Pixel series so far. Now, the full specifications of both these phones are also here, and again, these were shared by John from FrontPageTech. There are some really interesting things to note here, which we are going to talk about in this article.
Starting off with perhaps the most interesting information we got to know in this leak, Google is going to offer not two, three, or four but rather five years of software updates to these two phones. Again, we are talking about five years of software updates and not security updates. This will be the first time any Android phone maker has committed to offering five full years of software updates to its phones. Now that’s impressive.
One reason for this could be Google’s in-house chipset that we are going to see powering the Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro. While the full specifications of this chipset are not yet out, it is codenamed “Whitechapel,” and it is said that this chip is comparable to the Snapdragon 870 in terms of performance.
Speaking of the rest of the specs, Google Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch Samsung’s AMOLED panel & it comes with two cameras on the back. The primary shooter has a 50 Megapixel sensor in it & the secondary shooter has a 12 Megapixel sensor. It’s for taking ultrawide shots. On the front, there is an 8 Megapixel camera for selfies & the battery size is 4,614mAh. Finally, the Pixel 6 comes with 8GB of RAM & 128GB or 256GB internal storage. So, no more 4GB or 6GB variants this time.
Coming to the Google Pixel 6 Pro, it has a huge 6.71-inch display, but the panel is not from Samsung as in the case of the Pixel 6. In fact, the Pixel 6 Pro comes with a P-OLED panel by LG. This is the name LG uses to refer to its flexible OLED panels. Unlike the dual camera setup of Pixel 6, Google Pixel 6 Pro gets three cameras on the rear. So while two cameras are the same as on the Pixel 6, there is an extra 48 Megapixel sensor that is used along with a telephoto lens. This means for the first time ever, we are getting a Google Pixel device with a perfect triple camera setup, including a main, an ultrawide & a telephoto camera.
The battery size is 5,000mAh & there is a 12 Megapixel camera for selfies. While the Google Pixel 6 offers 8GB RAM as the base, Pixel 6 Pro goes one step ahead and offers 12GB RAM as the base along with 128GB or 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Finally, both these phones run on Android 12 out of the box, and as mentioned above, these phones are going to receive software updates for the next five years.
Well, it is the first time we are actually hyped for the new Pixel phones, as this time, it seems like Google has done everything right. There is now a perfect camera setup, an in-display fingerprint scanner, a big battery, a new design, 5G, WiFi 6E & more. Let’s see how Google prices these two phones since that is going to decide the fate of the new Pixels. As far as the launch is concerned, it is expected that Google would launch these phones in October. So, we still have three months left for the launch.
