Google Pixel 4a launched with Snapdragon 730G, priced at $349

In May last year, Google launched the budget Pixels named Pixel 3a & Pixel 3a XL, both of which were appreciated for impressive cameras & clean software. Today, Google Pixel 4a went official & apart from the fact that it has a great camera, the 4a costs lesser than the Pixel 3a as it is priced at just $349 (compared to $399 price of the Pixel 3a). For this price, the Pixel 4a is a great device to get because it undercuts the likes of OnePlus NORD & the iPhone SE.

GOOGLE PIXEL 4a – DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

Let’s talk about the design first because there are some significant design changes compared to the Pixel 3a of last year. First, unlike the Google Pixel 3a, which had big top & bottom bezels, the Pixel 4a has a punch-hole cutout. So this means the Pixel 4a is Google’s first smartphone with a punch-hole design. There is only a single punch-hole cutout since there is only one camera for selfies.

On the rear as well, there is a little design change. There is no square’-ish camera module which has a single camera & the LED Flash. The location of the fingerprint scanner hasn’t changed from the Pixel 3a. Now, it is not a surprise that the whole body is made out of plastic. But there are some nice touches here & there, for example, the power button gets a different paint job than the rest of the phone.

Finally, the Google Pixel 4a doesn’t sacrifice the 3.5mm headphone jack like the Pixel 4, so it is still there on the top. There are stereo speakers as well.

Coming to the specs now, the Google Pixel 4a has a 5.81-inch Full-HD+ display on the front & it is an OLED panel featuring 443 PPI pixel density. The display gets Gorilla Glass 3 protection as well & there is Always On Mode, Now Playing & HDR Support.

While the Pixel 3a launched last year with Snapdragon 670, the Pixel 4a gets the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G, which is the most powerful non-5G chipset under the Snapdragon 700-series currently from Qualcomm. The phone comes in only one storage option that includes 6GB RAM & 128GB internal storage.

The main USP of the Pixel 4a is not the chipset or the display, but rather the cameras. There is a single 12.2 Megapixel camera on the rear with Optical Image Stabilization & f/1.7 aperture. The pixel size if 1.4-micron & there is dual Pixel Phase Detection AutoFocus as well. This camera is capable of 4K 30fps & 1080p 120fps video recording. The 12.2MP 1/2.55″ sensor on the Pixel 4a is pretty sure the same as the one on Pixel 4. So that’s impressive.

On the front, there is an 8 Megapixel shooter with 1.12-micron pixel size & f/2.0 aperture.

Finally, the Google Pixel 4a comes with a 3,140mAh battery & supports 18W Fast Charging via the USB Type-C port.
