In July, we got the ROG Phone 6 duo which featured two gaming phones, both with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC. Today, we got two more gaming phones from the company under the ROG Phone 6D series. These are named the Asus ROG Phone 6D & ROG Phone 6D Ultimate. The most significant difference between these new phones and the ROG Phone 6 duo is the chipset. The ROG Phone 6D series features the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SOC, which means they are the first gaming phone from Asus with a MediaTek chipset.

ASUS ROG PHONE 6D

In one line,  the ROG Phone 6D is just the ROG Phone 6 but with Dimensity 9000+ instead of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Apart from the SOC, the only other thing that is different is the color. The phone comes in a Space Gray color, and that’s the only color option available. There is the same camera module design, the same dot-matrix logo, the same text on the back, the same front design, and the same button placement.

The phone has a 6.78-inch display, and it is a 165Hz AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The fingerprint scanner is present under the display. Under the hood, there is Dimensity 9000+ SOC which is MediaTek’s most powerful chip right now. This SOC offers a 5% better CPU and 10% better GPU performance than the Dimensity 9000.

The battery size is 6,000mAh, and there is 65W fast charging support. Regarding cameras, the ROG Phone 6D has a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor for the primary camera, a 13MP sensor for the ultrawide camera, and a 5MP sensor for the macro camera. For selfies, the phone has a 12MP sensor.

There are stereo front-firing speakers, and the phone does not miss out on a 3.5mm headphone jack. Android 12 runs out of the box.

ASUS ROG PHONE 6D ULTIMATE

Coming to the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, this phone is also more or less the same as ROG Phone 6 Pro, but there is one design change. On the back, there is a tab that can be used to access what Asus calls the “AeroActive Portal.” When you use the AeroActive Cooler 6 accessory with this phone, this AeroActive Portal will give direct access to the internal components of the phone. When you attach the cooler accessory, this portal will automatically open, directing a high-speed stream of cool air directly to the components inside. Asus says that the thermal efficiency using the AeroActive Portal has increased to up to 20%, which is incredible.

Another difference between the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate and ROG phone 6D is that you get up to 512GB of internal storage with the ultimate model.

And well, that is pretty much it. The rest of the phone is the same as the non-Ultimate model.

Speaking of the price, Asus ROG Phone 6D starts at £799, whereas the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate is £1,199.
