Asus launched a new flagship phone in India today named the Asus 8z, and it is just the Zenfone 8 from last year but with a different name for the Indian market due to the “Zenfone” trademark fiasco. It is worth mentioning that Zenfone 8 launched more than nine months ago last year. We were expecting Asus to launch this phone at quite an aggressive price in India, considering that the iQOO 9 SE launched recently with Snapdragon 888 for ₹33,990.

The Asus 8z launched for ₹42,999, which sounds like quite a lot for a phone that is coming more than nine months to the Indian market.

Asus 8z

The main USP of this phone is its compact form factor and powerful internals. It has a 5.9-inch display which is the reason why it is so compact. There is a Gorilla Glass 3 back with a matte finish, metal frame, and Gorilla Glass Victus on the front. The phone is also IP68 certified but doesn’t have wireless charging. There are two cameras on the back, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, and stereo speakers.

Under the hood, there is Snapdragon 888 SOC, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. The panel on the front is an E4 AMOLED with 1100 nits brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. In terms of cameras, there are two on the back where the primary camera has a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor with OIS. The ultrawide camera has a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor that can be used for macro shots too. The 64MP camera can shoot 8K 24fps videos as well. For selfies, Asus 8z has a 12MP camera.

And finally, there is a 4,000mAh battery with support for 30W charging. It is a shame that the phone runs on Android 11 out of the box.

In India, the phone comes in only one storage option. The color options are named Obsidian Black and Horizon Silver. The sale starts on the 7th of March.
