A couple of months ago, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 was officially launched by Qualcomm as the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the company’s most powerful smartphone chipset. Today, the brand launched another flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Since all the comparisons made by Qualcomm regarding the performance of this new chipset are in comparison with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it is safe to say that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a successor to the two-year-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Starting with the manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is built on TSMC’s 3nm process. This is already a big improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which was built on TSMC’s 4nm process. Qualcomm says the CPU is 36% faster and the GPU is 11% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Moreover, there is a 46% better AI performance. In terms of power efficiency, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has a 42% more efficient CPU and a 28% more efficient GPU. There is a 2 + 6 core configuration where the prime cores are clocked at 3.8GHz and the other six performance cores at 3.32GHz.
There is a sliced Adreno 840 GPU, the same as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Of course, not everything is the same, as the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 misses out on Adreno High-Performance Memory.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has the Snapdragon X80 5G Modem, compared to the X75 5G modem in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Well, we will see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 powering a lot of ‘flagship killer’ devices next year. The first phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is most likely the OnePlus Ace 6T, set to be unveiled in China on December 3.
