List of smartphones that might get the official Android P Update (Android 9.0)

Each year, Google unveils a new version of its Android Operating system. 2018 is no exception as it is now officially confirmed that Android P is launching pretty soon as the developer previews have started arriving for the Pixel phones. The first developer preview of Android P was released for Google Pixel phones on March 7, and since it is available for only Pixel phones, this means that no Nexus phone is getting the official Android P Update.

There are still a lot of smartphone companies that still haven’t delivered the Android Oreo update to their phones which they promised, but here in this article, we will be sharing the list of smartphones that might be getting the official Android P Update. Keep in mind that this list is going to be an unofficial one as there are no confirmations as of now from any smartphone company about the update.

CHECK OUT: List of Phones To get the Android Oreo Update (Android O)

Before jumping straight into the list of phones, it will be worth for you to read about the new features that have been added in the latest version of Android. Also, it is not officially confirmed if the Android 9.0 is going to be the version number, but we are sure that it is.

ANDROID P UPDATE – WHAT ARE THE NEW FEATURES?

  • ALL NEW NOTIFICATION BAR

With the latest version of Android, we see some new design changes like new notification panel, new animations, new Settings menu etc. This time, there is no exception as Google has redesigned everything from the notification panel to the settings. The notification panel has been completely changed, and there are now icons inside grey circles that turn black when activated. You can see in the image above how different the notification bar is from the Android 8.1 Oreo. There is no doubt that this somehow looks a bit ‘iOS-ish’, maybe due to those rounded edges and that tab to pull down the quick settings. Upon pulling down the quick settings, you will get all the familiar options like Settings, etc. which are not visible when you do a simple swipe down.

Also, there is no more a transparent background as it has been replaced by a clear white background (or clear black, depending on the wallpaper). Well, it seems like Google has tried to make the navigation bar look as clean as possible.

  • IMPROVED MESSAGING NOTIFICATIONS

Android P comes with even more improved messaging notifications. So, the user can not just reply from the notification panel, but also see the previous messages. In fact, if there is an image sent by the other person, the user will be able to see that in the notification bar itself. There is also the ‘Google Reply’ integration that suggests replies automatically. Much better, right?

  • ANDROID P COMES WITH NOTCH SUPPORT

This is probably something that we saw coming. With manufacturing adding notches to the displays, it was necessary for Google to add notch support to Android 9.0 or P. No matter how the cutout or the notch is designed, the latest Android version with ease will handle that. To make the content easy to view, the status bar will adjust the height automatically as per the notch. The users will also be able to choose if they want to view the content on full screen even with the notch in between.

AND MORE…

There is so much new stuff added to Android P that if we try to explain it in a single post, we will have to make a separate post for that. Anyways, some other features include Multi-Camera API, Neural Networks API 1.1, Autofill improvements, Open Mobile API for NFC payments and secure transactions, Data cost sensitivity in JobScheduler, HDR VP9 Video, HEIF image compression, and Media APIs, ImageDecoder for bitmaps and drawables, etc. There are so many other security features too.

Google Android P Update

Google Android P Update

It is a well-known fact that among all the phones that get latest Android updates, Google’s devices are the very first one to get it. Same is the case this time as we have seen that only the Google Pixel phones are eligible for the Android P Developer Preview. Samsung is, well, just another smartphone manufacturer that takes ages to roll out a stable Android update for its phones. So, no Android P for S7. The J series gets a major Android update, and the 2017’s J series phones have already got the Android Oreo update.
